UPDATE TO POST

After researching more signage america images I stumbled upon an update to the post titled “Look Familiar: Josef Shulz“. Not only did I add the link to Mr. Shulz’s images, I wanted to post more inspirational images to my life long series. Check out these vintage signage shots via Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maisonbisson/galleries/72157622437427063/

Not only was I stocked on the vintage signage find, but my Meet & Meat partner in crime Joey Pags and I starting getting serious about developing our Best Burger in Boston club into an HTML5/Latest Front End Tech sandbox to showcase the tasty mooving images from our escapades. I will keep ya’ll interested up-to-date.

New Portrait

This is the promised portrait after the workshop. It’s not much better, but it has the 2:30am stare. I should start doing more drawing in the sunlight. Might be a little less creepy. The next one is coming.

update + self portrait

Probably one of the first portraits I’ve done in months (many, many months), but I am having a hard time containing the excitement and anticipation I have for this drawing retreat/workshop coming up in about 10 days. So, I’ve been visiting museums and drawing constantly. This is just the beginning and I can’t wait to do another in two weeks that’ll put this one to shame.

Just to note, the 5 day workshop put on the CCCP with master instructor Marshall Arisman plans to be no mountain vacation. Rather it is 8-hour work days for the entire week of the 21st-25th in PA. I am just hoping to survive after watching Bravo’s new series last night “Work of Art:The Next Great Artist“.

Look Familiar: Josef Shulz

German photographer, Josef Shulz takes a familiar subject matter – Signage. With digital manipulation he recreates these actual signs as shapes, reducing them to “sculptural forms.”

Beautiful work.

They need some roughing up and texture. Wouldn’t they look even better as paintings?

Published: NU Alumni Magazine

Working with Art Director, Bruce Ployer of the Northeastern University Alumni Magazine, I was commissioned to produce one illustration for a two-page spread in the Spring 2010 issue.

The article deals with NU’s highly regarded physical-therapy program. It highlights the student’s awareness of emerging technologies in health sciences, specifically neuroscience. This illustration, ultimately is a snapshot into such a student’s mind.

“Those who study physical therapy at Northeastern emerge well versed in chemistry, physics, nueroscience, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging and kinesiology.”

Below are the preliminary sketches and concept illustrations, as well.

What a turnout Tuesday night. Thanks again to Jodie and Liz (The Glovebox girls) for putting on another successful show. Also, thank you to Paul, Jodie and Kevin for purchasing the prints. It’s always nice to not have to lug pieces home :)
